HC007 – Advantages of Hydrocarbon Refrigerants

  • Hydrocarbon Refrigerants have very low global warming potential (GWP) with energy efficiency up to 20% greater than standard HFC’s.
  • Another key benefit is that hydrocarbon refrigerants have a direct and indirect impact on climate change that is 1000 x less than that of HFC’s Comparative Cooling Capacities.

Comparative Cooling Capacities

Some Hydrocarbon cooling capacities are half that of similar HFC systems, these HC compressors therefore would need twice the displacement.

Examples:

  • R600a compared to R134a is half the capacity.
  • R1270 and R404A have similar capacities.

Compressors Electrical Safety

HC compressors have sealed electrical devices due to the flammability of the HC’s. These should be replaced with like for like only

HC system product labels must include the refrigerant type and charge amount

Compressor manufactures produce specific HC models as their associated electrical devices are different.

Compressors/Systems MUST be labelled with a yellow triangle with flame (Symbol ISO 7010 W021 warning, flammable material).
